SAINT JOSEPH'S ORATORY OF MOUNT ROYAL
One of the world's most visited shrines, Saint Joseph's Oratory stands splendid, historic and soulful atop Mount Royal. Pilgrims and visitors from all around the world and of any persuasion are welcome.
When you first catch sight of this mammoth, founded in 1904 by Saint Brother André, the first thing that will strike you is its large green dome, the highest point in Montréal , reaching 155 metres (506 feet) above street level. Also spectacular at night! As you climb each of the 283 steps from the street to the Basilica, you may hear the chime of the Oratory's carillon, originally designed for the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Don't miss the Way of the Cross with its 17 sculptures and beautiful gardens, perfect for meditation and prayer. The Oratory also features a museum, primarily dedicated to Christian art, with a large collection of nativity scenes from across the world.
